Photo Day!

Been pretty busy today – went out with the dogs to Wollaton park — took loads of pics, and I’ve taken the opportunity to sort through the Lake District pics.
Spent the evening playing with Lightroom. Why must I insist on shooting in RAW?! It’s worth it though, even if it does eat disc space!
I have been making some of my first HDR images too – it’s amazing how varied the results are, and they can be made from a single RAW file with equally good results.
The photos are from the Ambleside region. High Street Mt. in Hartsop and Helm Cragg near Grasmere.

I was bored late at last night when I really should have been in bed, and decided to play about with my camera for an hour or so; ideal time to try out my new tripod!

Read up a bit about the concept of light painting and long exposures – of course I still need to go and photograph a busy road, but for now, here’s some shots closer to home. It’s so much fun!
I took loads, but I just chose a few…

In an attempt to make my own entertainment for lack of anyone else to help, I decided to go to Nottingham centre to have a proper play with my new camera.

I’m now understanding how F/numbers work and how aperture size needs to be compensated by shutter speed etc. I’m now getting it…but still trying to figure out how to take a long exposure in daylight with a camera which only goes down to F/22 without complete whiteout. n00b!

I went to the Nottingham Contemporary to see the ‘Star City’ exhibition. It was all a bit odd. Got some fairly interesting pics, but it was all a bit too post-modern. Had a walk around the Lace Market while I was at it.

It’s so odd walking around Nottingham and actually noticing stuff, as you do when looking for photo opportunities. Normally, the nuanced character of Notts city centre passes one by, until you stop to notice it.
I stopped caring about the potential for people to try to steal my camera…it’s not really a threat. If someone tried, they’d be the ones in danger, anyway. When one walks around a city purely to look for photos, one feels like they’re not participating in what everyone else is doing – you’re there in a different context!

I filled up my memory card with RAWs, so I look forward to going over them, and getting frustrated because I’m not brave enough to get the more risky shots.

MSc Marketing Conference

What a day it’s been today. Very long indeed.
It was the conference which we’ve all been looking forward to where we could present our papers and ger some feedback. Ran from around 10-5, but then we all split off and went for drinks and for a meal after. Didn’t get back until well after 3am, meaning I’d been out for around 19hrs. That’s mad – I never do that! But it was the last day I guess and wanted to spend time with my colleagues. It was good opportunity to get photos too, as I might not see some of my friends again. Hopefully, they’ll be back for graduation in November.
I was able to grab a word with a lecturer who may be able to get me access to some SMEs who I can ask questions in relation to their e-marketing strategy.
The observations made by the academics who were critiquing my paper raised a couple of issues relating to the sample and way I am going to compare them. As yet, I’m not really clear on how this is going to work, but once I have gathered the feedback form these companies, I’m hoping it’ll slot into place into the conceptual map and I can make some meaningful conclusions. I might even find new adoption criteria not previously expected. The issue now will be about staying motivated, even though university is OVER (and I experience that depressive, disconnected feeling all over again). This has been my life for almost a year, now it’s gone.
I’m looking forward to getting the research done, recorded, coded, analysed and written up so I can do well at this – I owe myself that. Then I can move onto the next thing…whatever that might be. Today has certainly given me new ideas for the future, and integration with so many foreign students has been an inspiration.
Like I said…today was great for photo opportunities [to follow]. My camera seemed to attract much attention.

Rally

Went to the Dukeries Rally yesterday in Clipstone. Loads of cars old and new – It was a good photo opportunity, even if though I got epic hayfever.

I’ve previously only ‘had an account’ with Flickr but like many, not actually used it. Instead of undertaking the time-consuming task of implementing a gallery as part of my site, I’ve just put my photos on Flickr instead since I’m somewhat busy with uni work right now!

Clumber Park

Went for a bit of an impromptu ride today around Clumber Park. Parked up in a layby off the A614 and rode into Clumber via this cycle route. It was a bit of a ride, but more fun than going through the front. I find that I run out of room when I go to Clumber, despite its size. It’s quite difficult to get lost.

Might try somewhere in Derbyshire next time.

So, the exhibition is finally now under way well untruly. It’s been lot of fun and we were on a tight schedule to set up all our booths in time as we’ve only had a day or so prior access to the room.
I finally got mine all sorted out with all my photography mounted after numerous trips to the printers and a visit to hobby craft. It’s all part of the fun.

The stencil I decided to do was a very delicate operation to cut out the letters but it’s a great effect! We have literally been able to decorate our booth in any way we see fit…so why not spray paint it?
I’ve also shown my Obsidian music video on a flat screen and left some cards – thanks for dropping by if you found my site from the exhibition.
The exhibition was a great success and has been a great opportunity for us to show the high quality work our course created.
